Fermentation & Downstreaming Lead

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Fermentation & Downstreaming Lead to drive the advancement of our precision fermentation technology platform. In this role, you will lead the design and optimization of fermentation and downstream processing protocols, collaborating closely with our Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs) to implement and scale our innovative processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop fermentation and downstream processing protocols for our precision fermentation platform
  • Collaborate with CMOs and CDMOs to implement and optimize fermentation processes for various food ingredients
  • Oversee scale-up efforts, ensuring seamless technology transfer to manufacturing partners
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and process improvements across external manufacturing sites
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for technology transfer to partners
  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards across all external manufacturing processes
  • Analyze data from manufacturing runs to drive continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with R&D team to align process development with new product innovation.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in industrial fermentation and downstream processing, preferably in a CMO/CDMO environment
  • Strong knowledge of bioreactor operations, purification techniques, and scale-up challenges
  • Experience in technology transfer and working with external manufacturing partners
  • Proven track record in process optimization and troubleshooting at industrial scale
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple external collaborations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in interpreting manufacturing data
  • Outstanding communication abilities, adept at translating technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the food industry is a plus
